Hey guys this is Jace and I'm going to show you some simple ways for effects in Vegas. Ok Just read the following.
WARNING: I use Sony Vegas 7 so things may not be the same.

My Aura Effect: This a very simple effect and all it takes is a understanding of Blur and Media Generators.

1st: Open up Vegas and make 3 video tracks.
2nd: Put your background on the bottom track.
3rd: Go to Media Generators, then open up Color Gradient.
4th: Go down and put the Eclipse on the 2nd track.
5th: Then make the orbs counter 3&2 the same color and make 1, Green, Blue, or Red. Note: It does not matter which 1 you choose as long as you have a basic understanding of Chroma Keying.
6th: Go to Video FX Tab and drag Perfect Red, Blue, or Green screen on the eclipse. There it should be Chroma Keyed in.
7th: Then Put Guassion Blur from the Video FX Tab on the eclipse and you can change the size for how big you want it.
8th: Just add your character on the top track and add the aura sound effect, and boom your done. You just made a basic aura. Have fun with and to be smart with it save it as a Pre-set.

For my aura effect, I just green screened, masked, and insert a noise texture (lava), with a different color. It's much better in a way.

Lol, for my "aura effect" or energy effect (mine is elemental charge), I just go into the high res textures and extract the flames, then open them in sony vegas, key out the grey, insert a noise texture, then I put a color behind the cropped out noise texture, and render it. Then I use it however I want to and it looks much better.
